It all started in 1986, when the popular hanging pottery fish ornaments came to life on the potter's wheel.

Each fish is made individually by forming a small vase on the wheel and then pinching a funny mouth into place. Later, when the piece can be handled, eyes and fins are added. A large school of them is fired in a bisque kiln so that glaze may be applied.

A raku firing, which is traditionally Japanese, then takes place. Because of the opportunity for variation in Raku pottery, each personally signed ceramic fish ornament is unique. You can find the fish in select galleries across the US.
